WLO likes to use fixed fees for legal services whenever possible so that you know what to expect in terms of the legal costs for your matter. That said, there are sometimes situations where it is not possible to use fixed fees because of uncertainty related to the amount of time that the matter will take up. We will always discuss these matters up front with you and let you know exactly what to expect in terms of the type and amount of fees that we will bill. We will provide you with written confirmation of our fee discussion in the form of a retainer letter.

You should also be aware that legal fees are subject to taxes (GST, PST) which will be additional to the fees. In addition, we may incur costs on your behalf which you will have to refund to us as part of your bill. These costs are referred to as "disbursements" and include such things as photocopies, faxes, long distance telephone calls, postage, couriers, experts, and court filings. We will always discuss these with you at the inception of the work.
